Candidate Line-up

Candidates may begin to line up at 8:45 a.m. Please report to the first floor of the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center, 5530 S. Ellis Avenue. At the Ratner Center, you will pick-up your marching card, which indicates your place in the procession. Candidates not in line by 9:15 a.m., will NOT be permitted to march and participate in Convocation. Please note that all degree candidates must wear a cap and gown.

Please be aware that there is NO secure place to leave any personal and/or valuable items. The University is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Guests are NOT permitted in the candidate line-up area nor are they allowed to march or sit in the graduate seating area.

Guest Tickets

Each degree candidate participating in Convocation is eligible to register for a maximum of six tickets. Tickets are in high demand and we ask that students only register for the number of tickets they will need. In order to receive tickets, students must request their tickets via the Class of 2008 web site beginning Monday, May 19 at 9:00 a.m. and concluding on Friday, May 23 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for pickup at the Bookstore Wednesday, June 11, through Friday, June 13, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or another adult who will be responsible for their behavior during the ceremony and will escort them from their seats if necessary. All guests, including children, must have a ticket.

Students needing additional tickets may ask friends and classmates for extras not being used. For extenuating circumstances, please contact the College Programming Office at (773) 702-8616 or email college-programming@uchicago.edu.

Graduates and their families and guests are cordially invited to attend these special events in their honor:

Friday, June 13

3:30 p.m. Class of 2008 Baccalaureate Ceremony: Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Avenue. A celebration featuring class speakers, performances, and the Remains of Education Address. Tickets are not required for this event.
7:30 p.m. Dessert Reception: Museum of Science and Industry, 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive. The presentation of the Senior Class Gift will begin at 8:30 p.m. Dress is business casual. Parking is available in the museum garage. Handicapped spaces are clearly marked with easy access to the elevators.

Saturday, June 14

12:30 p.m. Post-Convocation Reception: The College will host a reception immediately following the ceremony on Saturday to celebrate the College's graduating Class of 2008. Meet up with families, friends and faculty at your divisional tent located in the Main Quadrangle:
  • Biological Sciences: Green Tent
  • Humanities: White Tent
  • The New Collegiate Division: Red Tent
  • Physical Sciences: Yellow Tent
  • Social Sciences: Blue Tent
