Academic Attire

A degree candidate wears the robe and cap (but not the hood) that is appropriate for the degree he or she is to receive at Convocation, regardless of any previous degrees received. Doctoral candidates are not hooded at the University's ceremony. No adornment of any kind is worn outside the robe or on the cap. See below for instructions specific to your degree.
Ordering
Orders may be placed through the University Bookstore, 970 East 59th Street, (773) 702-7558. The Bookstore is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Bachelor's and Master's Degrees
Your attire will be available for purchase at the Bookstore ($35 for bachelor's degrees; $40 for master's degrees). It is strongly encouraged that you pick up your attire as soon as possible. To ensure a proper fit and avoid long lines, please purchase your cap and gown early. You will be able to retain both as a keepsake.
Doctoral Degrees and J.D.
Your attire will be available for rental at the Bookstore for a cost of $50. An academic attire rental card will be mailed to you. Please fill it out and return by mail before November 20. If you did not receive a card or missed the deadline, contact the Bookstore at (773) 702-7558 as soon as possible. Rented academic attire will be available for pick-up at the Bookstore beginning on Wednesday, December 9 and must be returned to the Bookstore immediately after Convocation. For information about purchasing attire, contact the Bookstore; please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery.
